From 290 lbs to 1,212 lbs

....in 22 18 years. And he does not know how it happened.

His name is Manuel Uribe, a 40-year old Mexican who is seeking immediate medical help so he can lose some weight. An Italian doctor plans to do a gall bladder-intestinal bypass procedure that will make him pass food more quickly without absorbing so many calories. The problem is he can't walk and still unfit to travel to Italy where the operation will be done.

Also, his doctor is puzzled why his blood sugar and cholesterol levels are normal, in spite of his morbid obesity. If I were him, I will probably consult and collaborate with this brilliant scientist. His discovery of the role played by the hormone leptin in the development of obesity might be the answer.

The full story of Mr. Uribe is here.

Bayi, here's a good candidate for sumo wrestling. :) Equivalent to 4 wrestlers? But he's immobilised by his weight. Pity him. His bulging tummy looks like an oversized pumpkin, to put it mildly. How and why he subject himself to balloon like this, I simply can't comprehend. Don't tell me I don't know how it happened. You got to look at yourself in the mirror once a day you know. This is morbidly sheer negligence.

"On the other hand, his cholesterol and blood sugar are normal." << His size is daunting enough. These? Baffling.

the thing that weirds me out about such scenarios is that these people wait till they're over 300 lbs to seek medical help... when they can't move anymore etc.

i know there are medical and psychological reasons but it still weirds me out that it isn't enough that you can't see your nether regions...

Amen to that bayi. :)

But I have no sympathy to whoever helped him neglect himself. It should come first from the home, not with the public. If his parents or himself were vigilant enough in earlier onset of obesity, this would never happen.

Now, he's a social responsibility? Blame it to the media, otherwise, this could have been a family affair. But people always go for sensationalism.

I'm not laughing at his expense, far from that. I rest my case.

Maybe Dr. Vicky Belo can help in this case? ;-)
