I don't believe GMA and her cabinet do not see the pitfalls and implications of over-dependence on OFWs. But I am surprised that instead of trying to correct the situation (which is different from reversing it), the directions seems to be encouraging it.

BAYI - Of course, they see it! But sadly, they seem to give more preference over immediate rewards than the bigger picture.

It is not realistic to rely on foreign remittances in the long run. For sure they know that. What's of concern now is to build or attract more investments. I am not sure of the latest GDP growth. I am likewise not sure of how the government would sustain that growth with this global credit crunch. This I think isn't over yet.

Of late, growth in remittance has slowed down according to reports. Imagine if we rely on this too much or are we? Hopefully not.
